On 16 July, in Shanghai, “Russian Day”, a special event held within the Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC 2015) for the leading Russian IT companies in Russia, was a huge success. The visit from the Russian delegation in Shanghai from 14 - 16 of July was organised by the RVC in cooperation with RUSSOFT with support from the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, the Russian Federation Trade Representative in China and the High Technology Industry Development Center “Torch”. The activities were coordinated by the Interregional Innovative Development Center INNO-MIR.

The trip of the Russian delegation to one of the largest forums in the sphere of mobile technologies has become one of the steps in the Russian IT-industry Export Support Programme, which is currently being conducted by RUSSOFT with support from the Russian Venture Company (RVC). During the three days, from 15 - 17 of July, the participants in the programme were able to acquaint themselves with the newest successes of the rapidly developing area of the industry, explore the world of the latest trends, products , services and understand the main aspect of the evolution of the global mobile ecosystem.“Participation in the Mobile Congress in Shanghai is incredibly interesting for Russian IT companies,” commented Valentin Makarov, President of RUSSOFT. “This interest is tied to the idea of breaking through into the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets as well as the possibility of finding strategic partnerships in China to create cooperative products for the global market.” The members of the Russian delegation who were present at the MWC 2015 were able to partake in every congress event, as well as join the specially organised seminar and contact exchange (“Russian Day”)...

The programme for “Russian Day” included a seminar, discussing the different prospects for collaboration between Russia and China in the area of Mobile Technologies and presenting the possibilities and accomplishments of Russian IT companies. The seminar was attended by members of the Russian delegation, invited Chinese potential partners, experts and government officials from both the Russian Federation and China.

The Deputy Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Rashid Ismailov, opened the “Russian Day” event with welcoming words. In his introductory speech, the Deputy Minister underlined the importance and relevance of the process of improving business relations between Russia and China: “We see enormous potential in global ICT cooperation, which touches upon the markets of countries in which more than half of the world’s population live and we are entering a stage of active development of international partnership in this region.” Rashid Ismailov also spoke of the improvements in the ICT sector in Russia and about the prospects of a two-sided technological partnership. In particular, it was mentioned that, during the recent forum in Ufa, the BRICS and SCO countries agreed to establish a working group to coordinate their activities within the ICT sphere. “There is still a lot of work to be done regarding these agreements between our countries, but the foundation has already been set,” stated the Deputy Minister.

In her address, the representative of the Ministry of Sciences and Technologies of China, Vice-Chairwoman of the High Technology Industry Development Center Torch, Xiu Xiaoping, brought everyone’s attention to the importance of a cooperative approach towards the development of strategic growth of the mobile technology industry. An important step in this direction was the signing of the agreement of collaboration in Ekaterinburg during the international event INNOPROM.

In the report on the panel session “Russia & China: IT industry co-development opportunities” the executive director of the RVC, Alexander Potapov, gave a specific explanation of the idea of collaboration: he suggested the creation of a Russian-Chinese platform for cooperation in this sector of the industry with the RVC, “Torch” and RUSSOFT being at the centre of it all. Additionally, the term “collaboration” in this situation cannot be treated simply as establishing a reliable business relationship between companies, but should be regarded as an active joint entrance into the global markets. “The key idea lies in the synergetic approach towards the usage of each other’s strengths: in several spheres, Chinese development could come out on top thanks to Russian programmers, designers and system integrators, but in other areas Chinese software may be more competitive,” commented Alexander Potapov. “Our main goal here is the organisation of a high quality communications platform for interaction between Russian and Chinese companies.” The session was also attended by the President of RUSSOFT, Valentin Makarov, and the Vice-president of the China Mobile Communications Association, Ni Jian Zhong. The participants discussed the current worldwide trends in the ICT market, as well as the possibilities and perspective niches for cooperation between the IT companies in both countries. In their joint report, the representatives of SPB TV (Russia) and Shanghai Media Group (China) shared the experience of successful teamwork with the audience.

The second part of the seminar was dedicated to the presentation of the Russian companies. During the foreword, Valentin Makarov introduced the companies - members of the delegation, summarising the direction of their activities and main accomplishments. Afterwards representatives of each company, each of which had a presentation of their own, were given the spotlight in order to tell the gathering about their unique inventions, prospects for development and the possibilities of cooperation. The leading Russian IT companies, such as: SPBTV, ABBYY, Spirit DSP, TrueConf and others, were able to refer to the Chinese audience directly and describe their projects and successes in detail.

The conclusive part of the event was assigned to the negotiations between potential partners in a B2B format. These meetings were positively received by the participating companies and they found them most interesting and helpful. The companies got first-hand experience in learning about how the Chinese IT market is developing and were able to see that there are plenty of excellent opportunities to realise the potential of Russian entrepreneurs in Asia. “Businesses from China were ready to buy software and services from Russia, invest and create joint projects.” (TrueConf). In total, more than 70 people partook in the event “Russian Day”.
